The La Rioja region, its wines, and their correct serving temperature
A little bit of history
The La Rioja region has a long and rich history, dating back to the Roman times when it was an important stop on the trade route between Spain and France. The wines of La Rioja were first mentioned in documents from the 8th century, and the region has been producing wine continuously since then. La Rioja is one of Spain's smallest wine regions, but it is also one of the most important, thanks to its high-quality wines.
The grapes of La Rioja
La Rioja is best known for its red wines, which are made mostly from the Tempranillo grape. However, the region also produces some excellent white wines from the Viura grape. La Rioja's red wines are typically full-bodied and complex, with high levels of acidity and tannins. They are often aged in oak barrels for several years before being released, which gives them a distinctive flavor and aroma.
The wines of La Rioja
La Rioja is home to some of Spain's most famous and respected wineries, such as Lopez de Heredia and Bodegas Riojanas. The region's wines are prized for their quality and uniqueness, and they are exported all over the world. La Rioja also produces a small amount of sparkling wine, known as Cava.
Of course, to ensure these wines retain their distinctive flavor, only drink them at the correct serving temperature!
